Wegovy (Semaglutide)

They contain the same ingredient (semaglutide) at different doses. Ozempic (0.5mg to 2mg) is licensed for type 2 diabetes. Wegovy (2.4mg) is licensed specifically for weight management. They are not interchangeable.

Wegovy is available on the NHS through specialist weight management services in limited circumstances. Private services like Solira allow eligible patients to access it without an NHS referral or waiting list.

If fewer than 5 days have passed since your usual day, take it as soon as possible. If 5 days or more have passed, skip it and take your next dose on your usual day. Never take two doses in one week.

After a long gap, contact us before restarting: treatment resumes at the lowest dose.

In the STEP UP trial, published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology in 2025, people taking Wegovy 7.2mg lost an average of 18.7% of their body weight over 72 weeks, and 15.6% on 2.4mg, far more than the 3.9% on diet and exercise alone.

Yes. The MHRA approved the 7.2mg dose in January 2026 and a single-dose 7.2mg pen in April 2026, supplied as a pack of four pens, one for each weekly dose. It's available privately for eligible adults with obesity (BMI 30+). It is not currently on the NHS at this dose. You reach it by titrating to 2.4mg first.

In the STEP UP trial (Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, 2025), adults with obesity and without diabetes lost an average of 18.7% of their body weight over 72 weeks on 7.2mg, compared with 15.6% on 2.4mg and 3.9% on placebo, counting everyone who started treatment. Among those who stayed on treatment, the averages were 20.7% and 17.5%. Individual results vary.
