Effective treatment for Erectile Dysfunction, prescribed online

Erectile dysfunction has both physical and psychological causes, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stress and anxiety. Erection problems can be an early sign of heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure. If this is your first time with erection problems, see your GP to check your blood sugar, cholesterol and testosterone, and have a heart health check at least every 5 years. Losing weight, stopping smoking, drinking less alcohol and exercising can all help. If you cycle more than 3 hours a week, try a break from cycling.

The main symptom is difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough for sex. Our consultation asks the five questions of the Sexual Health Inventory for Men, a standard questionnaire, about the last 6 months: how confident you are that you can get and keep an erection, how often erections are hard enough for penetration, how often you can keep one after penetration, how difficult it is to keep one until sex is finished, and how often sex is satisfactory.

Four prescription tablets, all PDE5 inhibitors that work the same way: sildenafil (generic Viagra), tadalafil (generic Cialis), taken when needed or daily, vardenafil (generic Levitra) and avanafil (Spedra). Two pharmacy medicines, Viagra Connect (sildenafil 50mg) and Cialis Together (tadalafil 10mg), are supplied after a pharmacist consultation, with no prescription needed.

Sildenafil (the active ingredient in Viagra) is short acting and is taken about 1 hour before sex. Tadalafil (the active ingredient in Cialis) is longer acting: its effect can last more than 24 hours when taken on demand. It can also be taken daily at a lower dose, for men who expect to have sex at least twice a week, or who prefer not to plan around a tablet.

Sildenafil: take it about 1 hour before sex (anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours before). It takes about an hour to work. Tadalafil: take it about 30 minutes before sex. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to work, and its effect can last more than 24 hours. Vardenafil: take it 25 to 60 minutes before sex. It takes about 30 minutes to work. Avanafil: take the 100mg or 200mg tablet 15 to 30 minutes before sex, or the 50mg tablet about 30 minutes before. The 100mg and 200mg tablets can work in about 15 minutes. It lasts about 6 hours. A heavy or high-fat meal can delay how quickly sildenafil, vardenafil and avanafil work. Tadalafil is not affected by food.

Common side effects include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, and indigestion. Less common side effects are listed in the leaflet in your pack. Please read it before your first dose. Your prescriber will review your medical history to ensure the medication is safe for you.

Erectile dysfunction medication is suitable for men aged 18 and over. It is not suitable if you take nitrates, have severe heart conditions, or have had a heart attack or stroke in the last 6 months. Your prescriber will assess your full medical history.
