Can You Take Wegovy a Day Early (or Late)? Missed Doses and Moving Your Injection Day

Yes, if at least 3 days (72 hours) pass between Wegovy doses. Late doses within fewer than 5 days, skipped weeks, holidays and the Wegovy pill, explained.

Short answer: yes. You can take Wegovy a day or more early, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) pass between two doses, and then inject on that new day each week; this is the rule in the UK product information (SmPC, section 4.2). If you are late, take it if fewer than 5 days have passed since your usual day; if 5 days or more have passed, skip it and inject on your usual day. Never take two doses to make up for a missed one, and after a longer gap, contact us before restarting, because the dose may need to start lower again. Wegovy tablets are different: one tablet every day, a missed tablet is skipped, and they are never taken every other day.

This guide sets out what the Wegovy licence, the leaflet and the NHS say, as of October 2026, and works through each case with a usual injection day of Sunday, so you can see exactly which days work. The same rules cover every Wegovy pen, 0.25mg to 7.2mg. Mounjaro has a shorter late-dose window: see can you take Mounjaro a day early.

    Our pharmacist's advice

If you need to move your injection day, you can, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) pass between two doses. Then inject on your new day each week.

Wegovy pens: take it if fewer than 5 days have passed, otherwise skip. After a long gap, contact us before restarting: treatment resumes at the lowest dose.

    The two numbers to remember

    • Shortest gap between doses3 days

If you need to move your injection day, you can, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) pass between two doses.

    • Late dose: take it if fewer than5 days

Wegovy pens: take it if fewer than 5 days have passed, otherwise skip. The days count from your usual day, so at 5 days or more you skip it.

Everything else in this guide follows from those two rules. Wegovy can be injected at any time of day, with or without meals, so the time of day only matters when you are counting.

Can you take Wegovy a day early?

Yes. Say you usually inject on Sunday and want to inject on Saturday instead. Your last dose was 6 days earlier, well over the 3 days (72 hours) the licence asks for between two doses, so you can. From then on, Saturday is your new day. Then inject on your new day each week.

Would you rather go back to Sunday afterwards? You can. That is one day after your new day, which leaves 8 days between doses, and a dose a day late is within the rules.

Can you take Wegovy 2 or 3 days early?

Yes to both. Two days early, on Friday if you usually inject on Sunday, leaves 5 days since your last dose. Three days early, on Thursday, leaves 4 days. Both are more than 3 days, so both are within the rule. Then keep the new day each week.

Four days early is the limit. Wednesday leaves exactly 3 days, and the licence asks for more than 72 hours between two doses, so count to the hour: if your last dose was at 8pm on Sunday, inject after 8pm on Wednesday. Five or six days early, on Tuesday or Monday, is too soon.

Your last dose was on Sunday. You inject onTime since your last doseCan you?
    Saturday (1 day early)6 daysYes
    Friday (2 days early)5 daysYes
    Thursday (3 days early)4 daysYes
Wednesday (4 days early)3 daysOnly once more than 72 hours have passed, counted to the hour
Tuesday (5 days early)2 daysNo, too soon
Monday (6 days early)1 dayNo, too soon

Can you take Wegovy early every week?

No. Moving your day is a one-off. Wegovy is a once-weekly medicine, and the leaflet says that after you choose a new day, you carry on once a week on that day. Injecting every 5 or 6 days would mean more doses than prescribed, and as each Wegovy FlexTouch pen holds 4 doses, the pen would run out sooner too.

Can you take Wegovy a day late?

Yes. Wegovy pens: take it if fewer than 5 days have passed, otherwise skip. A day late, on Monday if you usually inject on Sunday, is well within that. Take it as soon as you remember, then take your next dose on your usual day, as the leaflet says.

A dose up to 3 days late still leaves more than 3 days before your usual day comes round again, so your doses stay well spaced.

What if you are several days late?

In practice, for the Wegovy pens, counting from your usual day:

    • If fewer than 5 days have passedTake it as soon as you remember, then take your next dose on your usual day.
    • If 5 days or more have passedSkip it and take your next dose on your usual day.

Never take two doses to make up for a missed one.

You missed Sunday. It is nowDays since your usual dayWhat to do
Monday1Take it now. Next dose on Sunday
Tuesday2Take it now. Next dose on Sunday
Wednesday3Take it now. Next dose on Sunday
Thursday4Message your pharmacist first: they will tell you whether your next dose is on Sunday or a new day
Friday or Saturday5 or 6Skip it. Next dose on Sunday

The days count from the time you would usually have injected. If you usually inject on Sunday evening and it is Friday morning, fewer than 5 days have passed. When it is that close, message your pharmacist before you inject.

Thursday is the day to watch. A dose taken 4 days late is followed by your usual Sunday dose 3 days later, and a dose later on Thursday or on Friday morning leaves less than that. The leaflet still says to inject your next dose on your scheduled day. If you are 4 days late or more, message your pharmacist before you inject, and they will tell you whether to go back to Sunday or keep the new day.

What if you missed a whole week, or more?

Missed one dose completely, and it is your usual day again? Take this week's dose as normal. The missed dose is skipped, never made up.

Missed two or more doses in a row? That is a gap in treatment rather than a missed dose. The Wegovy licence says that if more doses are missed, a lower starting dose should be considered when treatment restarts, and NHS advice is to contact your doctor if you miss more than one injection. Message your pharmacist with the date of your last dose before you inject again: they decide the dose you restart on. How long the gap has been decides it: under three months, you can usually carry on at the dose you were on once your pharmacist has checked it; three months or more means restarting from the lowest dose. Our guide to restarting Mounjaro or Wegovy after a break explains how.

Can a missed Wegovy dose cause side effects?

One late or skipped dose is unlikely to cause side effects of its own, because semaglutide, the medicine in Wegovy, leaves the body slowly. Its half-life is about a week, and the licence says it is still in the circulation for about 7 weeks after the last 2.4mg dose (SmPC, section 5.2), so a missed dose does not stop the medicine at once. The time to take care is the restart after a longer gap: the licence builds the dose up over 16 weeks to reduce the likelihood of stomach and bowel symptoms, which is why your pharmacist may restart you on a lower dose. If you do notice nausea or other stomach symptoms, our guide to Wegovy side effects explains how to manage them.

Thinking of starting Wegovy? Every order is reviewed by a GPhC-registered pharmacist, and you can message your pharmacist from your account whenever your injection day needs to move.

Can you skip a week of Wegovy for a holiday?

You can, but speak to your pharmacist first, because you may not need to skip at all. One skipped dose is handled like a missed dose: you take your next dose on your usual day after you are back. Skipping two or more in a row is a gap in treatment, and the dose you restart on may need to be lower. The Wegovy leaflet also says not to stop using the medicine without talking to your doctor.

Often one of these works instead:

    • Take your pen with you. Wegovy pens can be kept out of the fridge for a set time, within the limits below.
    • Move your day earlier before you go, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) pass between two doses.
    • Carry your pens in your hand luggage, never in the hold, where they could freeze.
    • Keep your pharmacy label with your pens. Solira patients can ask for a travel letter for an order from their account, signed by their pharmacist.
    • If you cross time zones, count the hours since your last injection, not the dates.

    Our pharmacist's storage advice

Storage: keep unopened pens in the fridge (2–8 °C) and never use a pen that has been frozen. Once in use: Mounjaro can stay out of the fridge for up to 30 days, not above 30 °C (then discard, even if medicine remains); Wegovy pens from 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg keep for 6 weeks below 30 °C with the cap on. The Wegovy 7.2 mg single-dose pen can be kept out of the fridge for up to 28 days, not above 30 °C; throw it away after that.

More on keeping pens cold while you are away in our guide to how long Wegovy can be out of the fridge.

How do you change your Wegovy injection day for good?

    1. Choose your new day. Pick a day you can keep to every week. Wegovy can be injected at any time of day, with or without meals.

    2. Count from your last injection. Your first dose on the new day must be at least 3 days (72 hours) after your last one.

    3. Moving to a day just after your usual one? If your new day is 1 to 3 days after your usual day (Sunday to Tuesday, say), skip your usual day that week and inject on the new day instead. That is the same as a dose 1 to 3 days late, which is within the rules.

    4. Keep to it. Then inject on your new day each week. The Wegovy leaflet asks you to use it on the same day each week if you can.

Moving from Sunday toYour first dose on the new day
Monday, Tuesday or WednesdaySkip your next Sunday and inject on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday after it, 8, 9 or 10 days after your last dose
Thursday, Friday or SaturdayThe Thursday, Friday or Saturday straight after your last dose, 4, 5 or 6 days after it

Do the rules change for the 7.2mg pen?

No. Section 4.2 of the Wegovy 7.2 mg licence repeats the other Wegovy pens' missed-dose and day-change rules word for word, as of October 2026, so everything above applies: fewer than 5 days late, take it; 5 days or more, skip it; and at least 3 days (72 hours) between two doses when you move your day.

Wegovy 7.2 mg comes as a pack of four single-dose pens, so your whole weekly dose is one injection. You may still see it described elsewhere as three 2.4 mg injections, which was the earlier presentation. Use one 7.2 mg pen for each weekly dose.

So a skipped week leaves one pen in the pack, and you never use two pens to make up for a missed dose. More in our guide to Wegovy 7.2mg.

Can you take the Wegovy pill every other day?

No. Wegovy tablets, the Wegovy pill, are taken once a day, every day: the UK licence describes a tablet for once-daily use and gives no every-other-day schedule (SmPC, section 4.2, as of October 2026). The injection's 3-day and 5-day rules do not apply to the tablets.

Our pharmacist's advice on the tablets

Your dose builds gradually: 1.5 mg daily for 4 weeks → 4 mg for 4 weeks → 9 mg for 4 weeks → 25 mg ongoing. Each step lasts at least a month, and you'll only ever have one strength at a time. Never take more than one tablet a day, never combine strengths, and don't repeat a dose if you vomit after taking it.

Missed a dose? Skip it and take your next tablet the following day. Never double up.

Taking a tablet every other day would mean half the licensed number of doses each week. If you are finding the daily routine hard, message your pharmacist. Our guide to how to take the Wegovy pill covers the 30-minute rule.

What if two doses end up too close together?

If you have injected twice within 3 days, for example because you forgot you had already taken this week's dose, do not inject again. Message your pharmacist straight away, and wait for them to tell you when to take your next dose. NHS advice is to get help from NHS 111 if you have had more semaglutide than it says on the packet, leaflet or prescription.

The Wegovy leaflet says that if you use more than you should, you may get side effects such as feeling sick, and the licence says too much semaglutide may cause stomach and bowel problems that could lead to dehydration, and that the person should be watched for signs of them and given supportive treatment (SmPC, section 4.9). Semaglutide leaves the body slowly, with a half-life of about a week.

When should you speak to your pharmacist?

Stop your treatment and seek urgent medical help if you experience: severe, persistent stomach pain, especially spreading to your back, with or without vomiting. This can be a sign of pancreatitis. Sudden pain in the upper right of your tummy, fever, or yellowing of the skin or eyes: possible gallbladder problems. Sudden loss of vision, or loss of part of your field of vision: seek same-day eye assessment. Swelling of the face or lips, difficulty breathing, or a widespread rash: call 999.

Seek advice promptly if you notice: signs of dehydration during vomiting or diarrhoea (dizziness, reduced urination, dry mouth): keep sipping fluids, as dehydration can affect your kidneys; palpitations or a racing heartbeat at rest; a new neck lump, swelling, or hoarseness. If you have type 2 diabetes and use insulin or a sulfonylurea, know the signs of low blood sugar (sweating, shaking, sudden hunger, confusion) and treat promptly.

Before any operation: tell your surgical or anaesthetic team you take a GLP-1 medicine. It slows stomach emptying, which matters for anaesthesia.

Message your pharmacist before you inject if you are not sure when your last dose was, if you are close to the 72-hour or the 5-day line, if you have missed two or more doses in a row, or if you are planning to skip a dose for a holiday.

If you have injected twice within 3 days, or used more than your prescribed dose, do not inject again and message your pharmacist straight away. NHS advice is to get help from NHS 111 if you have had more semaglutide than it says on the packet, leaflet or prescription.

For urgent medical concerns, call NHS 111 or 999. See when to get urgent help.

Yes. Three days early leaves 4 days since your last dose, more than the 3 days (72 hours) the UK licence asks for between two Wegovy doses, so it is within the rule. Then keep that new day each week. Four days early leaves exactly 3 days, so inject only once more than 72 hours have passed, counted to the hour. Five or six days early is too soon.

A Wegovy dose that is 5 days or more late is skipped, and you take your next dose on your usual day. If you are planning to skip a dose, for a holiday for example, speak to your pharmacist first: you may be able to move your injection day or take your pen with you instead. Missing two or more doses in a row is a gap in treatment, and the UK licence says a lower starting dose should be considered when you restart. Never take two doses to make up for a missed one.
