    Averages counting everyone who started, the trial's main result. If everyone had kept taking their medicine, the estimated averages were 21.6% on Mounjaro and 15.4% on Wegovy.

    SURMOUNT-5 (2025) compared the highest dose each person could tolerate of tirzepatide (Mounjaro, 10mg or 15mg) and semaglutide (Wegovy, 1.7mg or 2.4mg) in 751 adults without diabetes who had a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition, with advice on a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. It was randomised and open-label, so people knew which medicine they were taking. Funded by Eli Lilly, which makes Mounjaro. Aronne LJ et al. N Engl J Med 2025;393:26-36.

    Wegovy 7.2mg, in its own trial

    No trial has compared Wegovy 7.2mg with Mounjaro.

    Averages counting everyone who started, the trial's main result. If everyone had kept taking their medicine, the estimated averages were 20.7% on 7.2mg and 17.5% on 2.4mg.

    STEP UP (2025) compared semaglutide 7.2mg with 2.4mg and placebo in 1,407 adults without diabetes who had a BMI of 30 or more, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. It was randomised and double-blind, so neither the people taking part nor the researchers knew who was taking which. Funded by Novo Nordisk, which makes Wegovy. Wharton S et al. Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol 2025;13:949-963.

    Common questions

    Treatment may be suitable if you're aged 18–85 and have a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27–29.9 alongside one of the following: high blood pressure, raised cholesterol or blood fats, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes, or type 2 diabetes. You'll complete a short online consultation that our pharmacist reviews before anything is supplied.

    Orlistat may be suitable if you're aged 18 to 75 and have a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 28 or above with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Our pharmacist reviews your consultation before anything is supplied.

    Weight-loss injections are GLP-1 medicines given as a weekly injection. They mimic a gut hormone that reduces appetite and 'food noise', slow how quickly your stomach empties, and help you feel full for longer, so you eat less without constant willpower. They're prescribed after a pharmacist reviews your eligibility.

    Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist. It works by mimicking two natural hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar, helping you feel fuller for longer and reducing overall calorie intake.

    Wegovy (semaglutide) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics a natural hormone involved in appetite regulation. It slows gastric emptying and reduces hunger signals to the brain.

    In trials lasting 64 to 72 weeks, average weight loss counting everyone who started was about 11% with Foundayo at its highest dose, about 14% with Wegovy tablets, about 15% with Wegovy 2.4mg, about 19% with Wegovy 7.2mg and about 21% with Mounjaro 15mg. These were separate trials in different groups of people, so the figures are not a direct comparison. Individual results vary.

    Mounjaro and Wegovy are injections taken once a week. Wegovy tablets are one tablet a day, taken on an empty stomach after fasting for at least 8 hours; then wait at least 30 minutes before any food, drink, or other medicines taken by mouth. Foundayo is one tablet once daily, at any time of day, with or without food. The best option depends on your preferences and medical history. Our pharmacist will advise.

    You complete an online questionnaire about your health, medical history, and weight loss goals. A GPhC-registered pharmacist reviews your answers within 24 hours and may ask follow-up questions before prescribing.

    Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation and stomach pain, particularly during dose escalation. These typically improve over time. With orlistat, common side effects include oily or fatty stools, oily spotting, wind with discharge, and needing the toilet urgently or more often. They are more likely after a meal high in fat. Your pharmacist will discuss potential side effects during the consultation.

    Medication is dispensed from our GPhC-registered pharmacy and sent in plain packaging. We aim to dispatch within 1 working day of approval. Pens go by Royal Mail Tracked 24 in insulated packaging; tablets and capsules go by Royal Mail Tracked 48. Royal Mail aims to deliver Tracked 24 parcels the next working day and Tracked 48 parcels in 2 to 3 working days.

    Prices depend on the medicine and dose. GLP-1 treatments start from £64.99 for Wegovy 0.25mg, and orlistat from £26.99 for 120mg. Delivery is £3.99 for pens and £2.99 for tablets and capsules. One price for everyone. The price you see for each dose is what you pay, on your first order and every one after. No introductory prices, no codes. There's no separate prescription or consultation fee, a pharmacist review is included.

    Yes, but access is tightly restricted. In England, GPs have been able to prescribe tirzepatide (Mounjaro) since June 2025, and it is being introduced in phases. People with a BMI of 40 or more and at least four of five weight-related conditions (high blood pressure, abnormal blood fats, obstructive sleep apnoea, heart disease and type 2 diabetes) could get it first; from around June 2026 this widened to a BMI of 35 to 39.9 with four conditions, and from around March 2027 it is due to include a BMI of 40 or more with three conditions. Your GP can tell you whether you qualify. Private services like Solira let eligible patients start treatment without an NHS referral, after a pharmacist-reviewed online consultation.
