Short answer: once you have started a Wegovy FlexTouch pen (0.25mg to 2.4mg), it keeps for 6 weeks below 30°C, in the fridge or out of it, with the cap on. Before its first use, keep it in the fridge at 2°C to 8°C. The Wegovy 7.2mg single-dose pen can be kept out of the fridge for up to 28 days, not above 30°C, and then must be thrown away. Never use a pen that has been frozen. Wegovy tablets need no fridge.

The rules differ between the two kinds of Wegovy pen, so this guide takes them one at a time, then covers delivery, a pen that got too warm or too cold, and travelling.

Which Wegovy pen do you have?

    Wegovy FlexTouch pen, 1mg
    Wegovy 7.2mg single-dose pen
    • Wegovy FlexTouch, 0.25mg to 2.4mg. One pen holds four weekly doses. You use it for a month, so the rules are about how long it keeps once started.
    • Wegovy 7.2mg. Wegovy 7.2 mg comes as a pack of four single-dose pens, so your whole weekly dose is one injection. You may still see it described elsewhere as three 2.4 mg injections, which was the earlier presentation. Use one 7.2 mg pen for each weekly dose.

    Before you start a pen

Keep every Wegovy pen in the fridge at 2°C to 8°C until you start it. Keep it away from the fridge's cooling element, where it could freeze, and in its carton or with the cap on, to protect it from light. An unopened pen kept like this lasts until the expiry date printed on the pen and carton.

The 7.2mg pen is the exception: it may also be kept out of the fridge before use, for up to 28 days in total, not above 30°C.

    Our pharmacist's storage advice

Storage: keep unopened pens in the fridge (2–8 °C) and never use a pen that has been frozen. Once in use: Mounjaro can stay out of the fridge for up to 30 days, not above 30 °C (then discard, even if medicine remains); Wegovy pens from 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg keep for 6 weeks below 30 °C with the cap on. The Wegovy 7.2 mg single-dose pen can be kept out of the fridge for up to 28 days, not above 30 °C; throw it away after that.

How do Wegovy pens travel to you?

Delivery: Wegovy pens are sent in a cool package on a tracked 24/48-hour service. Put them in the fridge as soon as they arrive. Mounjaro is sent in a cool package on a tracked 24/48-hour service. Put it in the fridge as soon as it arrives. Wegovy's licence allows controlled shipment below 30°C for up to 48 hours. Delivery services and charges are on our delivery page.

What if a pen was left out, got warm or froze?

    • Frozen. Throw it away. Do not use it, even if it has thawed and looks normal.
    • Left out too long, or above 30°C. Do not guess. Message your pharmacist with how long it was out and how warm it got before you inject.
    • The parcel arrived warm. Don't use anything that should have been kept cold until you have spoken to us. Message your pharmacist with your order number and a photo. Your pharmacist will tell you what to do with it, and if it needs replacing we will replace it or refund you in full.

    Travelling with Wegovy

    • Carry your pens in your hand luggage, never in the hold, where they could freeze.
    • Use a cool bag with a gel pack, rather than putting pens straight onto ice.
    • Keep your pharmacy label with your pens. Solira patients can ask for a travel letter for an order from their account, signed by their pharmacist.
    • Check the medicine rules of the country you are visiting before you go.
    • Once in use, a FlexTouch pen keeps for 6 weeks below 30°C, so it does not need a fridge while you are away as long as it stays below 30°C.

    Wegovy tablets: no fridge needed

Wegovy tablets are stored differently. Storage: keep the tablets in the original blister pack to protect them from light and moisture. No special temperature storage is needed.

When should you speak to your pharmacist?

If you are not sure a pen is still safe to use, do not use it. Message your pharmacist with how long it was out of the fridge and how warm it got.

Never use a pen that has been frozen, or one past its expiry date.

If your parcel arrives warm or damaged, message us before you use anything in it.
