Foundayo (orforglipron): the once daily weight management tablet
Foundayo is a prescription only medicine and one possible outcome after an appropriate weight-management clinical assessment. Available following an online consultation with our pharmacist. New patients start at 0.8mg.
Foundayo is the brand name for orforglipron, a once daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist developed by Eli Lilly, the company behind Mounjaro. Like Wegovy and Mounjaro, it works by mimicking GLP-1, a natural gut hormone that reduces appetite, quiets food noise, and slows how quickly your stomach empties, so you feel full sooner and stay full for longer.
What makes Foundayo different is its chemistry. Every other GLP-1 medicine is a peptide, a small protein that stomach acid destroys, which is why most are injections. Foundayo is a small molecule that survives digestion on its own, which is why it has no fasting rules at all.
The MHRA licensed Foundayo on 10 August 2026 for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to 30 with at least one weight related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. It is also licensed to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
The main trial behind the licence, ATTAIN-1, followed adults with obesity and no diabetes for 72 weeks. Counting everyone who started treatment, people on the doses matching Foundayo 5.5mg, 9mg and 17.2mg lost an average of 7.5%, 8.4% and 11.2% of their body weight over 72 weeks, compared with 2.1% on placebo (ATTAIN-1, NEJM 2025). Individual results vary.

Switching from another provider?
You may be able to carry on at your current dose. Upload proof of your current treatment during your consultation, and your pharmacist confirms it with you on a video call.
Side effects are similar to other GLP-1 medicines and mainly affect the gut, especially in the first weeks and after each dose increase. The most common are nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion, and stomach pain. These usually ease as your body adjusts. In the main trial, 3.5 to 7% of people on the higher doses stopped because of stomach related side effects.
Cautions and who should not take it
The UK SmPC lists hypersensitivity to orforglipron or any of the excipients as the contraindication. Other situations, including severe liver impairment, a history of pancreatitis, pregnancy, planning pregnancy and breastfeeding, are warnings, cautions or cases where use is not recommended and must be assessed individually. Foundayo must not be used in pregnancy. If you become pregnant, stop treatment and contact your GP or prescriber immediately. Stop it at least 3 weeks before you try to conceive. Oral hormonal contraception may be less effective: a non-oral method of contraception, or an added barrier method, is advised for 30 days after starting and for 30 days after each dose increase. Tell your pharmacist about all medicines you take, as some interact and may need review.
How to take it
How do you take Foundayo?
One tablet once daily, at any time of day, with or without food. Swallow it whole with water. Never split, crush or chew it.
Missed a dose? Take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If you only remember the next day, skip it. Never take two tablets in one day.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation are common in the first few weeks and after each dose increase. Eat smaller meals, avoid very fatty food, and keep well hydrated.
Seek urgent medical help if you have severe, persistent abdominal pain that may spread to your back (possible pancreatitis), sudden loss of vision or loss of part of your field of vision (NAION), pain in the upper right of your tummy with fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes (gallbladder), or signs of dehydration such as dizziness, dry mouth or passing much less urine.
If you use the oral contraceptive pill, use a non-oral method or add a barrier method such as condoms for 30 days after starting treatment and for 30 days after each dose increase.
Storage: keep the tablets in the original pack. No fridge needed.

Seek advice promptly if you notice: signs of dehydration during vomiting or diarrhoea (dizziness, reduced urination, dry mouth): keep sipping fluids, as dehydration can affect your kidneys; palpitations or a racing heartbeat at rest; a new neck lump, swelling, or hoarseness. If you have type 2 diabetes and use insulin or a sulfonylurea, know the signs of low blood sugar (sweating, shaking, sudden hunger, confusion) and treat promptly.
Before any operation: tell your surgical or anaesthetic team you take a GLP-1 medicine. It slows stomach emptying, which matters for anaesthesia.

Foundayo is taken once daily at any time of day, with no food or water restriction, and the tablet is swallowed whole. Treatment starts at 0.8mg for at least 30 days before moving to 2.5mg.
