What is Foundayo?
Foundayo is the brand name for orforglipron, a once daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist developed by Eli Lilly, the company behind Mounjaro. Like Wegovy and Mounjaro, it works by mimicking GLP-1, a natural gut hormone that reduces appetite, quiets food noise, and slows how quickly your stomach empties, so you feel full sooner and stay full for longer.
What makes Foundayo different is its chemistry. Every other GLP-1 medicine is a peptide, a small protein that stomach acid destroys, which is why most are injections. Foundayo is a small molecule. It survives digestion on its own, with around 79% of each dose absorbed, compared with roughly 1% for the Wegovy tablet even with its absorption enhancer. That is why Foundayo has no fasting rules at all.
The MHRA licensed Foundayo on 10 August 2026 for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to 30 with at least one weight related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. It is also licensed to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.

How effective is Foundayo?
In the ATTAIN-1 trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, more than 3,100 adults with obesity or overweight took orforglipron or placebo for 72 weeks across nine countries.
Average body weight loss at 72 weeks, all participants who started treatment. People who completed the full 72 weeks on the highest dose lost 12.4% on average, and nearly half lost at least 10% of their starting weight. The trial also showed improvements in waist size, cholesterol, and blood pressure.

Foundayo side effects
Side effects are similar to other GLP-1 medicines and mainly affect the gut, especially in the first weeks and after each dose increase. The most common are nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion, and stomach pain. These usually ease as your body adjusts. In the main trial, 3.5 to 7% of people on the higher doses stopped because of stomach related side effects.
Seek urgent medical help if you notice
- Severe stomach pain that will not settle or spreads to your back (possible pancreatitis)
- Vomiting where you cannot keep fluids down
- Signs of a serious allergic reaction such as facial swelling or difficulty breathing
- Symptoms of low blood sugar if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea
- Upper stomach pain with yellowing skin (possible gallbladder problems)
Who should not take Foundayo
Foundayo is not suitable if you or a close family member have had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 syndrome, if you have severe liver impairment, or if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Important for women: Foundayo can reduce how well the contraceptive pill works. Use a barrier method for 30 days after starting and for 30 days after each dose increase. Tell your pharmacist about all medicines you take, some antibiotics, antifungals, epilepsy medicines, and simvastatin need dose adjustments or should be avoided.

No. Foundayo is not currently available on the NHS. NICE will assess it separately, which typically takes time. Until then, it will only be available privately through regulated UK pharmacies.

Both are once daily GLP-1 tablets. Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide and must be taken on an empty stomach with a small amount of water, then a 30 minute wait.
