Avanafil (brand name Spedra) is the newest licensed PDE5 inhibitor available in the UK. Its key advantage is speed. Suitability
Who it's for

Not suitable if:
- Blood pressure above 170/100 mmHg

Dosing
How to take Avanafil
- Starting dose: 100mg, 15 to 30 minutes before sexual activity
- Dose range: 50mg to 200mg. Maximum 200mg once daily
- No dose adjustment for renal or hepatic impairment
- Can be taken with or without food
- Avoid concomitant use with other PDE5 inhibitors
Side effects
Common side effects include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, back pain, and dizziness. These are usually mild and temporary.
Rare but serious: priapism
Seek emergency medical treatment if you experience an erection lasting more than 4 hours.

Common questions
Avanafil works in as little as 15 minutes. Sildenafil takes 30 to 60 minutes, vardenafil 25 to 60 minutes, and tadalafil 30 to 45 minutes. For men who want minimal waiting time, avanafil is the fastest option.
Avanafil is not suitable if your blood pressure is above 170/100 mmHg. For lower levels of high blood pressure that are controlled, our prescriber will assess suitability during your consultation.
