Foundayo (orforglipron) is a once daily GLP-1 tablet for weight management, licensed in the UK by the MHRA on 10 August 2026. It is simpler to take than most weight loss medicines, but a few rules still matter. This is the pharmacist's guide to taking it well.
How do you take Foundayo?
One tablet once daily, at any time of day, with or without food. Swallow it whole with water. Never split, crush or chew it.
There is no fasting and no waiting time before you eat, drink or take other medicines. The UK product information says Foundayo is taken at any time of day without food or water restriction. That is the biggest practical difference from Wegovy tablets, which need an empty stomach and a 30 minute wait. For the two tablets side by side, see our Foundayo vs Wegovy tablets comparison.
What are the Foundayo dose steps?
Foundayo starts at 0.8mg once daily and steps up through each strength to a maximum of 17.2mg, with at least 30 days at each step. The strengths are:
- 0.8mg, starting dose
- 2.5mg
- 5.5mg
- 9mg
- 14.5mg
- 17.2mg, maximum dose
You will stay on each dose step for a minimum of 30 days, and we review you before every dose increase.
Not everyone needs the top dose. The aim is the lowest dose that gives steady, sustainable results, and each increase depends on how well the medicine is working for you and how you are tolerating it.
Can other medicines change your Foundayo dose?
Yes, a few can. If you take ketoconazole, itraconazole or clarithromycin, or ciclosporin, the UK product information sets the highest Foundayo dose at 9mg once daily, because these medicines raise the amount of Foundayo in your blood. Others, including St John's wort, can make Foundayo work less well. Tell us about every medicine you take, including anything you buy without a prescription, and about any new medicine you start.
What should you do if you miss a dose?
Missed a dose? Take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If you only remember the next day, skip it. Never take two tablets in one day.
How should you store Foundayo?
Storage: keep the tablets in the original pack. No fridge needed.
The tablets are sensitive to light, which is why they stay in the original pack until you take one. The UK product information sets no special storage temperature.
Does Foundayo affect contraception or pregnancy?
If you use the oral contraceptive pill, use a non-oral method or add a barrier method such as condoms for 30 days after starting treatment and for 30 days after each dose increase.
Foundayo must not be used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you become pregnant, stop treatment and contact your GP or prescriber straight away. If you are planning a pregnancy, the UK product information says to stop Foundayo at least 3 weeks before you try to conceive.
What should you expect in the first few weeks?
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation are common in the first few weeks and after each dose increase. Eat smaller meals, avoid very fatty food, and keep well hydrated.
The UK product information says nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea were more frequent while the dose was being increased and became less frequent over time. Drink enough fluids, especially if you are being sick or have diarrhoea, as dehydration can affect your kidneys. Our guide to Foundayo side effects covers what helps and the signs that need urgent attention.
Do not stop taking Foundayo without talking to your pharmacist or doctor first. If you have type 2 diabetes, your blood sugar can rise when you stop. For the cost of each strength, see our Foundayo UK price list.
