In June 2026, the MHRA approved the Wegovy pill — the first oral GLP-1 medicine licensed for weight loss in Europe. It's the same semaglutide as the weekly injection, but delivered as a once-daily tablet. This guide explains what's available in the UK, what it costs at Solira, and how to get started.
What was approved
Oral semaglutide (branded as Wegovy tablets) received MHRA approval in June 2026 for chronic weight management in adults living with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related health condition. It's the first oral GLP-1 approved for weight loss in Europe.
Availability
Wegovy tablets are available in the UK by private prescription only. They are not currently available on the NHS — a separate NICE assessment would need to conclude before that could change. In practice, that means access is through registered online or high-street pharmacies after an appropriate consultation.
The doses
- 1.5mg — starting dose
- 4mg
- 9mg
- 25mg — maintenance dose
You spend at least a month at each step to let your gut adjust. Most people who continue treatment end up on the 25mg maintenance dose, though some settle on 9mg if that's enough.
Solira pricing (2026)
Per 28-day supply, pharmacist-reviewed, delivered:
- 1.5mg — from £79.99 for new patients on the starter dose
- 4mg — mid-titration
- 9mg — mid/maintenance
- 25mg — full maintenance dose at £199.99
- Delivery: £3.99
New patients get £20 off their first order with code WELCOME20. Pharmacist review is included — there's no separate consultation fee.
Who is eligible
In line with the licence, Wegovy tablets are appropriate for adults with:
- BMI of 30 or above (obesity), or
- BMI of 27 or above (overweight) with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or sleep apnoea.
Eligibility is confirmed through a short online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered pharmacist. No GP referral is required.
How long until you reach the full dose?
With a month at each step, you reach 25mg after roughly four months of steady titration (1.5mg → 4mg → 9mg → 25mg). Some people move a little slower if side effects are more noticeable at a particular step; that's a normal pharmacist-led decision.
