Wegovy is now sold in two formats in the UK, and they're priced differently. That makes "how much does Wegovy cost" a harder question than it used to be. Here's how to compare properly.
Two formats, two pricing structures
The once-weekly injection is priced by strength (0.25mg through 2.4mg, plus the higher 7.2mg dose). The daily tablet is priced by strength across its own dose range. The active ingredient is the same — semaglutide — but you cannot compare a tablet price to a pen price directly. One is a month of daily tablets; the other is four weekly injections.
Compare at maintenance dose, not starting dose
The same principle applies as with Mounjaro. Starting doses are titration steps you pass through in a few weeks. What matters to your budget is what you'll pay once you're stable on your maintenance dose — ask any provider for that number before you commit.
What should be included
- Consultation and pharmacist review.
- Needles and a sharps bin (injection only).
- Tracked delivery.
- Ongoing support between doses — someone to speak to if side effects hit.
Check whether each of these is bundled into the price, or invoiced separately.
Is the tablet cheaper than the injection?
Not necessarily — and it shouldn't be the deciding factor. The tablet requires an empty stomach and a 30-minute wait before food, drink or other medicines, every single day. The injection is once weekly with no food rule, but involves a needle. Pick the format you'll actually stick to for a year: adherence beats a small price difference every time. The cardiovascular consideration
The 2.4mg injection carries a licensed indication for reducing cardiovascular risk, based on the SELECT trial. The tablet does not have this indication. If you have established cardiovascular disease, that is a clinical factor that outweighs price.
Buying safely
Be cautious of any UK seller offering Wegovy without a consultation, at unusually low prices, or shipping from overseas. Semaglutide is a prescription-only medicine. Falsified semaglutide pens have been identified in the UK supply chain. Buy from a GPhC-registered pharmacy and check the registration number on the GPhC register.
